Customers can also benefit from the existing ‘coupons’ that give shoppers personalised discounts on different products

Lidl has made a change to its loyalty scheme offering shoppers extra discounts.

Each week, customers can now make savings on their food shop when they scan their Lidl Plus App at the till.

The supermarket chain is introducing Lidl Plus Offers which gives exclusive additional discounts for all loyalty scheme members.

Loyalty scheme member are also benefitting from "coupons" in the Lidl Plus app, which are personalised offers that have to be activated before people use them.

The process enables Lidl to collect data on the discounts they activate most, as well as their shopping habits, in order to personalise further coupons.

The coupons must be activated, however, the new Lidl Plus Offers will be automatically applied at the checkout when people scan their phones.

The discounted products appear in the "Offers" section of the app, and will change weekly.

A Lidl spokesperson said: "To make it even easier for customers to save on their shopping we’ve introduced Lidl Plus Offers.

"This benefit, which is in addition to our personalised Lidl Plus for You Coupons, gives Lidl Plus users access to an amazing selection of savings that don’t need to be activated and will automatically be applied at the checkout when customers scan their Lidl Plus app.

“It also means that we’re able to provide even more personalised discounts through our Lidl Plus for You Coupons, giving customers a tailor-made way of getting the things they love at even lower prices.”

The new feature has been added to the Lidl Plus app in the past few days.

Products included range from fresh & cupboard essentials to our middle of Lidl aisle.

Examples of this weeks offers are:

  • Freshona Peach Slices, Buy one Get one Free
  • £10 Go-Kart (with Lidl plus £39.99)
  • In-store Bakery Filled Muffins, 4 for £2.50

It comes after Lidl announced that it is increasing pay for hourly-paid colleagues to a minimum of £12.40 across the country, up from £12. In London, colleagues will see entry level pay rise to £13.65, up from £13.55.

The new base rates equal the best hourly pay in the sector and will ensure that the discounter continues to reward colleagues with industry-leading pay.

With the Lidl Plus app, customers can get a free bakery coupon when they spend £50 in a month.

They can then unlock more coupons if they spend £100 and £150.

Once shoppers spend £250 in a month, they'll get a 10 per cent off voucher to spend on their next shop.

People can download the Lidl Plus app on to a smartphone or android via the Apple App Store or Google Play store.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The Lidl Plus app was launched in 2020 and by November last year had 38 per cent of shoppers as active users, according to Nielsen Homescan.

The app has been credited by discounter experts as a key weapon helping Lidl grow sales faster than Aldi since October last year, including at Christmas.

Lidl's sales were up 9.1 per cent year on year in the 12 weeks to April 14, putting its market share at a record-high eight per cent.
