Britain's families are set to be hit with a £1,000 hike in annual budgets from April

Britons have "had enough" and are "being taken for mugs" by Labour as household bills are set to hike from April, it has been claimed.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves laid out the Government's economic plans in her Spring Statement, including plans to cut welfare benefits by almost £5billion.

UK households now are bracing for a series of painful bill increases set to hit from April 1, in what has been dubbed "National Price Hike Day."

Water bills will rise by an average of 26 per cent, adding £123 to annual costs for homes across England and Wales.

Energy bills will increase by 6.4 per cent as Ofgem raises the price cap, adding around £111 to yearly costs.

Council tax will rise by five per cent in most English areas, adding approximately £109 to a typical band D property.

Discussing the increases on GB News, commentator Duncan Barkes claimed that Britons are set for an "awful April" and "everything keeps going up" for bill-payers.

Barkes explained: "It's an awful April that's coming down the track - so everything's going up in terms of cash, and there's a long list.

"Off the back of Rachel Reeves's first budget in October, employer's National Insurance is increasing from 13.8 per cent to 15 per cent.

"That has an impact on people because we're now hearing from the business community, who can't afford pay rises and can't afford to employ more people."

He expressed public frustration at Labour's current economic situation, stating: "I get a real sense, and I pick this up when I talk to people, people just say, I feel like I'm being taken for a mug, I'm fed up with this.

"Everything keeps going up, the usual suspects keep getting away of not paying their fair share, and people have had enough."

In agreement with Barkes, commentator Emma Woolf said she is unsure "how much more people can take" with the increasing costs of living.

Woolf told GB News: "April is the cruelest month, and genuinely, I don't know how much more people can take.

"I know the reaction to the budget and then the spring statement hasn't been great for Rachel Reeves, but I genuinely think people are struggling.

"I'm not talking about the poorest in society, I'm talking about the middle level as well. I don't know where this goes, but I wonder how much more people can actually afford."

Other household bills are also set to increase in April, including TV licences, NHS dental prices and first class stamps.

Road tax will rise, with electric vehicle owners particularly affected as their exemption ends.

The energy price cap, which covers 26 million households in England, Wales and Scotland, will also increase from April.

The new cap means a typical household will pay £1,849 annually for gas and electricity on a standard dual-fuel direct debit plan.
