Jim Davidson claimed 'the world's gone bonkers'

Jim Davidson has hit out at London Mayor Sadiq Khan, following the expansion of ULEZ across outer London.

The Ultra Low Emission Zone sees a daily £12.50 charge applied to vehicles that do not meet up-to-date emissions standards.

It was expanded at the end of August to cover the whole of London, having previously covered just inner London.

Speaking on Dan Wootton Tonight, the comedian shut down the Mayor's policy, claiming he's 'not bothered' about the impact of the emissions on Brits.

Dan Wootton asked Davidson about ULEZ and the proposed net-zero u-turn by Rishi Sunak: “Can you back the PM here?”

Davidson replied: “To tell you the truth, I'm not bothered because I'm always banned from driving. So it doesn't really bother me. I've had it.”

He joked: “I am! I've got another two months to go. It's an absolute nightmare. I mean, I'm really fed up.

"This is a joke, and all because I did 172 mile an hour in a 20 mile an hour. It's ridiculous.”

Davidson then shared his thoughts on ULEZ, saying: “This is the thing. If you think about the Mayor of London, right? And we're talking about cars and all the rest of it, he's saying that the diesel and the emissions from cars are killing people.

"They are killing thousands of people in London. But give me £12.50 and it won't bother me at all.

“That's what he's saying, isn't it? How much is a life worth Mayor, £12.50? Come on in, bring them in. Give me more £12.50. We've got loads of people."

Jim concluded: “The world's gone bonkers, you know, and don't even bother about going to live in Wales. I, my mate, lives there and he was overtaken by a tortoise the other day.”

Sadiq Khan has previously defended his expansion of the ULEZ scheme. He recently told the BBC: "We now have a really effective policy to reduce air pollution.

"It’s shown to be effective in central London and inner London, but I think clean air is a right not a privilege.

"What about outer London? Why shouldn’t they breathe clean air?

"Why should they carry on dying prematurely in numbers that could be reversed?"
