'These shocking statistics paint a stark picture of the financial anxieties facing millions of households'

Millions of people in Britain are anxious about how they will make ends meet as the high cost of essentials remains a major driving issue for many, research shows.

However, Britons can improve their finances in 2025 with the help of UK charity, Christians Against Poverty (CAP) and its “Budget not Blues” - which provides free face to face money coaching sessions.

It comes as the charity revealed shocking new polling from Opinium Research.

A total of 17.7 million (33 per cent) UK adults are suffering daily anxiety about their finances and of those who reported facing financial hardship, 38 per cent (7.6 million people) cited the high cost of essential items, as a primary cause.

Peter Snell, CAP's money coaching expert, said: “These shocking statistics paint a stark picture of the financial anxieties facing millions of households.

“It's heartbreaking to see so many people struggling daily with the fear of not being able to afford the basics – food, heating, light, toiletries, clothing.

“The sheer scale of this problem underscores the urgent need for accessible support, which is precisely what our Budget not Blues campaign provides. We're not just offering budgeting tips; we're offering a lifeline to those drowning in financial worry.

“Our new Budget not Blues money coaching sessions for 2025 are now starting to go up on our website for people to book, with more being added daily. They are designed to empower people to take control of their finances, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate challenging economic times.”

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

CAP's free money coaching sessions are run at local churches across the UK. There are already over 1,500 trained money coaches across the country who are delivering free group workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions, which equip individuals with the skills to create and manage a personal budget effectively.

CAP money coaching client, and now a Money Coach herself, Sue, from Chelmsford, said: "When my marriage broke down I moved out of the family home. I was renting a flat but was still paying half of the mortgage on the house, which meant I had very little left to spend on essentials.

"My daughter was sending me money for food, but I still ended up using credit cards to live. It didn’t take long for the credit card debt to mount up. In the end I had over £1,000 worth of debt which I couldn’t afford to pay back, so the interest on it just grew and grew.

"Through my local church I was offered a place on their CAP money coaching course, which I took and was so glad that I did - it was instrumental in me getting out of debt.

"I adopted and stuck to the money coaching budget and as a result, managed to pay off my credit card debt in ten months. It was lovely to be debt free. I’ve continued to keep to the money coaching budget and am pleased to say that I’ve never been overdrawn since."
