Thousands to get £25 as cold weather hits this week – DWP's full list of new Cold Weather Payment triggers
GETTY
Cold Weather Payments are intended to help with additional costs during periods of very cold weather
Around 10,000 are estimated to be due to get a £25 Cold Weather Payment amid freezing temperatures this week.
Cold Weather Payments have been triggered for eligible people in 19 postcodes this month.
Those who qualify and have a trigger in their area should get the payment automatically within 14 working days after the period of very cold weather.
The payments won’t affect other benefits a person may get and will be paid into the same bank or building society account as the benefit payments.
While payments are automatically paid, some may wish to check if they are due a payment

While payments are automatically paid, some may wish to check if they are due a payment.
The government runs a Cold Weather Payment postcode checker tool each year, allowing people to check if there has been a trigger.
There have been Cold Weather Payment triggers the period January 12 to January 18, and elsewhere, there are triggers for January 13 to January 19.
The areas include parts of the north of England, in Cumbria, Northumberland and County Durham.
The DWP has now shared the full list of Cold Weather Payment postcode triggers so far in January 2024.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
People who live in Scotland can no longer get Cold Weather Payments.
They may qualify for Winter Heating Payments worth £50 per winter instead.
To get a Cold Weather Payment, a person must be getting certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest and live in a postcode where there has been a trigger.
Following this month's triggers, some people will now be due their third Cold Weather Payment, adding up to £75 this winter, due to two triggers earlier this winter.
