Boots UK's parent company announced that they will close down about 300 pharmacy outlets in the UK within a year
Boots has announced the closure of hundreds of stores by the end of summer 2024.
The popular health and beauty chain is set to close 300 pharmacy outlets in the UK as it tries to save £618million.
Some 581 Boots stores have already closed their doors for good and by the end of the summer, 69 more will have closed.
In June last year, Walgreens Boots Alliance, the parent company of Boots UK, announced that the company will close down around 300 pharmacy outlets in the UK within a year.
A few pharmacies earmarked for the closures are still open but Boots said they would cease operations by the end of this summer.
Boots UK affirmed that any additional closures announced will fall within the already communicated plans.
Next, Wilko, Iceland, Clintons and M&S have seen high street branches close in the past year
PABoots is not the only high street store that has seen mass closures over the past year.
Next, Wilko, Iceland, Clintons and M&S are all popular UK chains struggling to keep its high-street presence going.
Although 300 stores will have closed by the end of summer, the reduction has helped the retailer see a boost in their profits.
The pharmacy sales at Boots UK has seen a 5.8 percent rise compared to the same time duration in 2023, according to Walgreens Boots Alliance quarterly filings published last month.
Tim Wentworth, the CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance said: "We continue to face a difficult operating environment, including persistent pressures on the US consumer and the impact of recent marketplace dynamics, which have eroded pharmacy margins.
"Our results and outlook reflect these headwinds, despite solid performance in both our international and US healthcare segments."
Wentworth continued: "Informed by our strategic review, we are focused on improving our core business: retail pharmacy, which is central to the future of healthcare. We are addressing critical issues with urgency and working to unlock opportunities for growth."
The company has been increasing its saving targets annually, with an announcement made in 2023 that the plan would be extended until the end of 2024.
According to the company's financial statement, it is "currently on track to achieve the savings target".
