The move means it will have shut 69 of its branches in 2023 alone

A major high street bank has named the branches soon set to shut after announcing it would be closing more locations.

Barclays will close a further 14 branches across England and Wales this year as a result of a growing trend of customers turning to online banking.

The 14 branches will close in June, with a number of “banking pods” opening up in their place across the country.

Several high street banks have now taken the decision to decrease the number of physical branches across the UK, including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds and Santander.

All four have shut over half of their branches in the last eight years.

Barclays customers will now have to use one of 200 banking pods, with a further 70 opening up in the first half of 2023.

Head of Everyday Banking at Barclays UK, Jo Mayer said the move to the pop up pods was to “help us to tailor our in-person support for each location, including support with digital skills.

“In areas where we close a branch, we will maintain our presence in that community offering an alternative face-to-face solution.”

The bank also runs an educational and support van which can offer customers financial advice.

The first bank, located in Loughton, will close on June 22, with a further 13 closing in the week that follows.
