Rishi Sunak has blasted the Labour-run Welsh Parliament over its GB News ban as the Prime Minister issued a direct message to viewers.

Sunak, who is languishing behind Sir Keir Starmer in the opinion polls, came out fighting today as he made his direct pitch to GB News viewers.

Speaking to GB News' political editor Christopher Hope at a pub in Nottingham, Sunak said: “Well, the first thing I'd say is the Labour-run Welsh Parliament have banned GB News. That tells you what they think about GB News and GB News viewers.

“I've come and done GB News' People's Forum to talk directly to your viewers because I respect them and I want to make sure that they know I'm addressing their concerns.”

Cardiff Bay, which is run by Welsh Labour, banned the broadcaster from its internal TV system last year.

The decision taken by the Welsh Parliament sparked concerns about censorship in the British media landscape.

In contrast, Sunak appeared on People’s Forum for a 60-minute grilling from GB News viewers in County Durham.

GB News also invited Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer to appear in a separate People’s Forum event.

The Leader of the Opposition sat down with GB News to answer questions at a pub in Harlow just last week.

During his exclusive interview on GB News earlier today, the Prime Minister issued a warning directly to viewers at home about the impact of a landslide Labour victory.

Conceding disappointment with the Tory Party, Sunak said: “I get that people are frustrated with my party, with me. It's been a difficult few years with Covid, the war in Ukraine.

“We haven't got everything right, we haven't made as much progress as we would like in some areas.”

Turning his attention to July 4, the Prime Minister added: “But this is not a by-election. Your vote can make a difference.

“This is a choice about our country's future and the impact it will have on your family finances. Do not give Labour a blank cheque to do what they want. Do not surrender to them.

“If you do not vote Conservative, your taxes are going up, we will become the soft touch of Europe when it comes to migration, the net zero reforms that I put in place will be reversed, we will invest less in your in our defence, your pension will be taxed. That's what's going to happen if you don't vote Conservative.

“Vote for Conservatives, that's why I can keep cutting your taxes, invest more in our defence, strengthen our borders, protect your pension and get us to net zero in a sensible way.”

Sunak’s direct plea comes after JL Partners revealed Labour is winning amongst GB News viewers.

Labour is hoovering up 38 per cent of GB News viewers, with Reform UK leapfrogging the Tories into second on 25 per cent.

Sunak’s Conservative Party is just one-point behind, with the Liberal Democrats and Green Party registering eight and three per cent support respectively.

However, Reform UK’s seven-point boost came following the surprise return of Nigel Farage as the rebranded Brexit Party’s leader.

The Prime Minister appeared to want to win over Tory-Reform switchers by warning a vote for any other party would wreak havoc on the UK.

During a visit to Clacton earlier this month, Farage made his own pitch to GB News viewers.

He said: “There is going to be a stonking Labour majority anyway.

“And I tell you something, if I was leading a party that was surging in the polls, had millions of votes and representation in Parliament, then that might make Mr Starmer think twice.

“After all, Brexit wrecked the Labour Party. And I was telling all you guys 10 years ago, we got more Labour votes than Tory votes.

“So, no, the way of stopping Starmer going further back into the EU is a strong Reform voice in the House of Commons.”

When asked if he would front up a campaign to keep Britain out, Farage added: “I’ve been campaigning all my life.”

Reform UK could also cause chaos for Conservatives across the country.

Find Out Now and Electoral Calculus' MRP poll for GB News revealed the populist party could snap up 18 seats.

The survey reduced the Conservatives to just 60 seats, with the Liberal Democrats becoming the Official Opposition on 72 and Labour propelled to power with a 250-seat majority.

Sunak’s seat was also projected to fall to Labour, with the Prime Minister trailing his challenger by just one per cent.
