Huw Edwards was today sentenced to a six-month sentence suspended for two years by a Chief Magistrate at Westminster Magistrates' Court today
The former BBC News at 10 newsreader was said to have been "emotional" throughout the sentencing and often held his hands to his head when listening to the ruling.
The Chief Magistrate explained when delivering the ruling that Edwards did not pose a risk to the public or children and an immediate custodial sentence was not necessary because the evidence showed he could be rehabilitated.
Fury broke out on social media at the sentence with comparisons made to the sentences dished out to Southport protestors - who were handed jail sentences.
Chris Rose said: "The disgraced former BBC Presenter, Huw Edwards, has been handed a suspended jail sentence of 6 months.
"So we have people sitting in jail for social media posts. Actually mental, the UK is a joke."
Kelvin MacKenzie wrote: So you can be jailed for between 18-36 months for a tweet (with Starmer cheering from the back of the court) but if you pay £1,500 and then view 41 pornographic images of children, 2 aged between 7-9, a suspended sentence is all that’s handed down.
