GB News members were asked whether they think a Donald Trump win is good for the UK

Donald Trump was announced as the winner of the US Presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday morning.

Declaring victory in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump told his supporters: "We're going to help our country heal."

Following his dramatic win, Sir Keir Starmer "fondly recalled" meeting Donald Trump in September as the Prime Minister offered his "hearty congratulations".

The Prime Minister congratulated Trump on his victory on social media and in the House of Commons before making a phone call on Wednesday evening.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy also congratulated Trump on his election win.

However, Lammy has previously made his opinions on the Republican clear in a tweet.

In 2017, the then-backbencher described Trump as a “racist KKK and Nazi sympathiser” and declared he would take to the streets to protest the at-the-time President’s UK visit.

Shadow Armed Forces Minister Mark Francois has warned that Lammy faces a "difficult position" following his comments.

He told GB News: "Donald Trump does have a reputation for taking sleight personally, so I think this does place the foreign secretary in a rather difficult position."

Starmer met with the 45th President alongside Foreign Secretary David Lammy as Labour hoped to smooth out relations ahead of polls opening on November 5.
