GB News members are being asked if they should shun American products following Donald Trump's tariff announcement

Nearly all British products have been hit by a 10 per cent tax on goods imported into the US from abroad which took effect yesterday.

The Lib Dems have suggested that the UK emulate the "Buy Canadian" movement in Canada, which has seen shoppers turn their backs on US-made goods in response to Donald Trump's tariffs.

Two days into his campaign, Mark Carney posted a video encouraging people to "buy Canadian wherever you can", using locally-made maple syrup, potatoes and jam as an example.

The Government has said it will consult businesses impacted by the increased tax, and is currently considering a "long list" of American goods that could be hit with retaliatory import taxes.

Earlier this week, Labour’s biggest union backer began lobbying Sir Keir Starmer to purchase British-made Typhoon fighters instead of American aircrafts.

Maria Eagle, the defence procurement minister, appeared to suggest that the Government would prefer to buy “more capable” fifth-generation F-35 stealth jets from the US .

Sharon Graham, the general secretary of Unite, is understood to have advised the PM to get involved in order to safeguard factory jobs in the UK.

Graham said going ahead with the plans would be an "act of national self-harm”.
