His spokesperson has confirmed that the prince would attend a service at St Paul's Cathedral in London on May 8 to celebrate the Invictus Games, the international sporting event that he founded for military personnel wounded in action.

No mention was made of whether Meghan will join him in the UK, but it was confirmed she would be by his side in Nigeria afterwards.

His children, Archie and Lilibet are not expected to attend, with the spokesperson not making any mention of them.

Other senior members of the Royal family are not expected to attend.

In an exclusive poll for GB News membership readers, an overwhelming majority (83 per cent) of the 1,425 voters thought Prince Harry should not step up to support his father, while 13 per cent thought he should. One per cent said they did not know.

Neither the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex nor Buckingham Palace confirmed any plans for Prince Harry to meet his father, although both have made clear their willingness to spend time together should their diaries permit.

Harry was last seen in Britain in February when he flew in for a brief meeting with his father after the King announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

The palace said on Friday that King Charles would return to public duties after he made good progress following treatment and a period of recuperation.

Last month it was also revealed that Harry's sister-in-law, Princess Kate, had also been diagnosed with cancer and would take a step back from royal engagements to focus on her treatment.

That in turn meant that Prince William also scaled back his engagements, in order to help his wife and kids.
