Sophie Reaper gave GB News members a sneak peek behind the scenes ahead of the opening ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris tonight.

The GB News reporter said: "We're here on the banks of the River Seine in Paris, where this evening, the opening ceremony will see 10,500 athletes make their way down the river aboard boats as part of the first-ever outdoors opening ceremony.

"They'll come here along the river and they'll make their way up to the Eiffel Tower."

As the camera panned to the iconic landmark, Sophie said: "What a view that is."

"[They'll then go] to the Trocadero, where Paris 2024 will officially begin.

"Now the security here in Paris is immense," the reporter said, as she pointed to security checks going on in the distance.

"You'll see behind me here, they've got sniffer dogs out on the seating just over here," she said.

"They're already making their final checks. Those are seats people have paid for to come and watch the opening ceremony tonight.

"They're checking those. They're making sure they're safe. This entire area is locked down.

"You're only able to access this area if you are a resident, if you have a work permit, or if you have specific permission from the French government. And that's what this is all about - it's all about safety.
