The population statistics were quite shocking. According to the Office of National Statistics, over the next decade, the numbers coming to our nation will increase by around 6.1 million of which 92 per cent will be migrants.
That is the equivalent of five Birminghams. How on Earth are we going to cope?
It’s quite clear our public services are already creaking under the strain. Try seeing your local GP on the day, try getting your child into your preferred school, try renting a house or flat that won’t bankrupt you.
All major issues will get worse with the influx. Our problem is we are too attractive to the world.
Our benefits package means that if you are a family living in London you can be better off on welfare than a household earning £70,000 a year.
Analysis by the Centre for Social Justice and The Telegraph shows non-working families can claim tens of thousands of pounds of Universal Credit, Council,l Tax Support, and Child Benefit while many families must pay full rent and income tax.
The combined value of these benefits and discounted rents in some locations can add up to more than £50,000 – more than a sole earner on £70,000 would get after income tax and National Insurance.
Surely benefits were never intended to be more generous than working. It’s time they were reduced.
