Jacob Rees-Mogg opens up on his new fly-on-the-wall TV show - ‘It’s fun and they pay me!’

Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg has given GB News members exclusive insight into a new fly-on-the-wall documentary being made about his life.

In an interview for GB News members, the former Conservative MP explained why he agreed to the new TV programme following his life as a politician.

Sir Jacob said: “I think if you're in politics, you need to be able to show yourself to people and show who you are.”

“People feel they are entitled to know who their politicians are and I think we'll have to see when the programme comes out, but people will see that a politician's life is both similar to theirs and different, that there are aspects that are the same for everybody.”

Sir Jacob said having children impacted his life, and this aspect will be shown in the TV show.

The former Tory MP has six children and once admitted he has never changed a nappy.

He also told GB News: “But equally you have to live in two places and you have aspects of life that are very different.”

“And so it's showing what a politician does, what a political life is like.”

“And I think that is part of the political armoury.”

“It turns out to be quite fun, entertaining and they pay me, so the combination is not to be sniffed at.”

The documentary is being filmed for Discovery+ and will be called Meet the Rees-Moggs.

The film will feature the Rees-Mogg family and their nanny, Veronica Crook, who looked after Sir Jacob when he was a child in the 1960s.

The youngest of Sir Jacob’s children is called Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher Rees-Mogg.

Discussing his future after losing his North East Somerset seat at the general election earlier this year, the former politician said: “I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.”

Sir Jacob would not speculate on whether he would stand as a member of parliament again.

The former MP still hosts his nightly show on GB News, Jacob Rees-Mogg’s State Of The Nation.

In an extended conversation with GB News reporter Steven Edginton, Sir Jacob also discussed the rise of the Reform Party and Nigel Farage.

When asked about defections to Reform, he said: “New parties often over-talk the number of defections that they're going to get.”

“And after Lee Anderson went, there were rumours that quite a number of people were going to defect to Reform, and this never materialised.”

“So I'd always be cautious about claims of defections.”

Discussing why he hadn’t defected to join Nigel Farage, Sir Jacob said: “You saw during the election campaign that Reform has not made the breakthrough as a mature political party.”

“So it's got Nigel, who is a formidable, reliable communicator, has very interesting ideas, many of which I agree with.”

“It then had quite a number of loony tune candidates who were really very difficult, who had views that are certainly not my views, that were actually damaging to what Nigel was trying to do.”

He continued: “And they had a manifesto that didn’t add up.”

“So Reform has a long way to go before it is a serious political party that can have both the people and the policies that make it ready for power of any kind.”

“At the moment it's got one big figure, and we're not an entirely presidential system.”
