Customers have expressed their anger on social media

Tesco shoppers across the UK are facing empty shelves as a supply issue has left the supermarket giant short of tinned beans.

The shortage is affecting butter beans, borlotti beans, black beans and chickpeas.

It is understood the problem is temporary and affects a small number of Tesco’s own-brand beans.

The absence of these popular cooking ingredients has not gone unnoticed, with frustrated shoppers taking to social media to voice their concerns.

One customer wrote on X: "What's happening to your range of own-brand tinned beans? Nothing is in stock and for the last few weeks?"

Another complained: "Why is no one talking about the fact there is a bean shortage in Tesco? I want my beans."

A third shopper asked: "How come your Lisburn store doesn't have any tinned beans? Like kidney or black, etc?"

One customer reported seeing "empty shelves for tinned chick peas, black beans and cannellini beans in two different stores in the last week".

Another noted: "The Tilbury Calcutta Road shop is not being restocked, four days now, no chickpeas no butter beans no kidney beans."

The retailer's popular own-brand baked beans in tomato sauce remain unaffected by the supply issues.

Tesco said: "We are experiencing some temporary availability issues on a small number of our own-brand bean lines. We apologise for the inconvenience caused."

In other food news, Britons have been urged to check their Easter Eggs as treats sold in major supermarkets could contain metal.

GETTY

Shoppers across the UK have been warned not to eat certain Tony's Chocolonely Easter eggs due to possible metal contamination.

This follows the recall of two Tony's Chocoloney chocolate bars, sold in Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose and other UK supermarkets.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued an alert that Tony's Chocolonely recalled two Large Hollow Easter Eggs.

The products were pulled from shelves because they may contain pieces of metal, making them unsafe to eat.
