The structure of the face changes significantly over time, with wrinkles and sagging being among the most common effects.
One less frequently mentioned change is that the eyes appear more deeply set in their sockets over time due to a loss of elasticity.
But some beauty enthusiasts have reported this unexpected facial change after using popular eyelash growth serums containing prostaglandin analogs (PGAs).
The little-known known side effect has particularly gained attention on social media where some users have highlighted potential risks of using the beauty products.
The side effect may be reversible in some cases

Among them is Mikayla Flynn, who shared her experience on TikTok, where she described herself as having "naturally hooded eyes".
"But I used an eyelash serum that had prostaglandins, so it hallowed out my upper eyes completely," she added.
The reports come as recent medical findings have also linked the serums to a condition affecting the eye area's appearance.
A study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal recently documented additional cases of "prostaglandin-associated periobitopathy" in users of PGA-containing lash serums.
It reported that a woman in her mid-30s had developed "thin, wrinkled, darker skin, and preorbital hallowing" after using a treatment containing isopropyl for 10 months.
Isopropyl, according to Gov.UK, is the most commonly listed synthetic PGA ingredient declared in ten eyelash growth serums.
The report also states that the 35-year-old's symptoms reversed six months after stopping the product, but according to hair transplant surgeon Dr Kopelman, that is not always the case.
"Essentially, the orbital fat that gives the eyes a youthful full appearance starts to break down, leading to a sunken or hallowed look," he told GB News.

"If a patient stops using the product early enough, some of these changes can be partially reversible," he noted.
However, he warned that in severe cases, the fat loss can become permanent.
He also highlighted an additional risk, stating that "eyelid drooping is another risk, as PCAs can weaken the muscle that lifts the lid".
The condition is well-documented, occurring when prostaglandin-based serums are used for extended periods.
