Accessories can be used to enhance an outfit and help you look years younger

Skin care, diet and lifestyle are all important factors if trying to look younger, but these efforts can be dampened if you wear the wrong outfits.

The wrong colours, accessories and fits can make women look years older than they are.

Ditching black outfits is a good place to start, according to vintage fashion expert and owner of Modes and More Susie Nelson.

This is a colour often favoured as it can be slimming, but the expert explained it washes older women out.

Opting for universally flattering colours - like red, pink and purple - can work wonders for your appearance.

Picking the right accessories is also vital and Susie opened up on the merits of glasses. Wearing glasses isn't reserved for those with a prescription as flattering sunglasses can be used to transform a look.

Susie told GB News: "Use glasses as a statement accessory, be they reading, prescription or sunglasses.

"The right shaped and colour framed glasses can be a great addition to your wardrobe and the marketplace for these, especially online, has expanded enormously in recent years.

"Great frames in interesting materials can define bone structure and set off eyes and eyebrows. If eyes need more pop, remember the eye drops."

It is a common misconception that wearing glasses can make you look older. While the wrong frames could do this, it is easy to avoid.

Opt for glasses that highlight your strongest features. Doing this can enhance your bone structure and take years off your appearance.

The expert advised looking for statement pieces as these will enhance your basics and are sure to get you lots of compliments.

She said: "One stunning piece of statement jewellery on a classic outfit can be a real head turner and add interest.

"For youthful dressing, ditch the pearls and heirloom jewellery and find some one-of-a-kind items, be they necklaces, brooches, earrings or other accessories."
