A number of stores will close in October

The British high street has been hit by store closures this year, with more to follow in the coming week.

These are the store closures set to happen in October.

Retailers will often close stores to relocate them or because of changing demand.

Iceland branches have shut as the retailer constantly reviews shop openings and closures.

Managing director of Iceland foods Richard Walker said: "We typically open more than 20 new stores each year, creating many new jobs and contributing to the growth of local economies.

"At the same time, we continually review the retail experience offered to our customers and have always made a small number of store closures every year, as local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire."

The fashion chain has not yet said when stores will close but it has shared 11 will do so before the end of the year.

If this does not begin in October the closures will follow shortly after.

Branches will close for a number of reasons. A statement said: "We expect to close 11 mainline stores this year.

"Six closures are in locations where we forecast that the store would not achieve our target margin on almost any terms; two closures are due to the site being redeveloped; three further closures are as a result of being unable to agree acceptable new terms with landlords.

"This last category includes one large store where the length of the lease proposed by the landlord, on a high fixed rent charge, was not something we could agree to."

This comes as Costa shared stores will close and open in the coming months.

German supermarket Aldi has announced it will open new stores and is searching at spots across the UK.
