Sports Direct will close a store early in 2024

Popular retailer Sports Direct shared one store will close for good.

This follows other branches that have shut this year.

Shoppers in Swindon will be affected as the closure will take place within weeks.

A spokesperson for Sports Direct owner Frasers Group stated: "It is with regret that we announce Sports Direct Swindon in Orbital Shopping Park will be closing early 2024.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their hard work and dedication.

"Where possible, we are committed to finding new roles within the Group for staff."

Stores have already closed in 2023 as the British high street continues to change including a store in Chantry Place in Norwich and Central Six Retail Park in Coventry.

Earlier this month, Sports Direct shared that its gym group, Sports Direct Fitness, would close a branch.

It shared the gym in Salisbury closed for good on December 11.

An announcement explained it would not reopen and the cost of maintaining the gym was a big factor behind the move.

Britons have faced a constantly changing high street amid a move to online shopping.

Retailers have responded to this by closing and relocating branches, or focusing on other areas of their business.

This comes as a British card shop announced it will close a store in early 2024.

Cardzone's branch in Reigate, Surrey, will no longer trade from early next year.

A coffee chain found in more than 25 Tesco stores is set to close.
