The fashion and homeware retailer will close a store in Leeds next month following the closure of another branch last week

Matalan has confirmed that the store in The Core Shopping Centre in Leeds will close on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

Matalan is currently one of seven retailers, seven food outlets, a gym and a yoga studio in the shopping centre.

A spokesperson for the retailer assured shoppers that all is being done to ensure staff are not adversely affected by the closure.

They said: "We are working closely with our affected colleagues and doing all we can to find suitable positions in our local store network.

“Customers in the area will still be able to access our full range of products via our website.”

At the end of an era, the retailer thanked all Leeds-based customers who shopped with them.

This comes as the retailer also closed down a store in Leytonstone just days ago.

On Sunday, January 7, 2024, the long-standing store ceased trading after more than 20 years.

A spokesperson from Matalan said that the retailer worked closely with those affected and offered them alternative positions in local stores.

Leytonstone locals will still be able to access their favourite Matalan products online.

Nevertheless, shoppers were disappointed to hear the news of this closure.

One took to Facebook saying “that's very sad to hear”, while another called it “a shame”.

The shopping landscape has changed drastically over the past few years, with the high street taking a hit due to the Covid pandemic and later the cost of living crisis.

Many retailers have acted in accordance with this and streamlined their stores.

Fashion retailer Peacocks will shut a store in the arc shopping centre in Bury St Edmunds on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

Sports retailer Sports Direct will say goodbye to Sports Direct Swindon in Orbital Shopping Park in early 2024, while health and beauty retailer Boots has announced a number of upcoming closures.
