This follows three branches that have already shut up shop this year.

Clarks started off as a British company in 1825 but has gone on to have international success.

There are more than 1,000 Clarks branches across the world.

A Clarks spokesperson told GB News: "We continually review our retail estate to ensure we have stores of the right size and located in the right places to offer our consumers the best possible experience of our brand, and that work for the profitability of our business. This results in the opening, refitting and sometimes closure of stores.

"Regrettably, we have closed a handful of stores over the last few months, but are delighted to have opened eight new stores across the UK this year, including new stores in Taunton, Camberley, Manchester, Reigate, Stratford Upon Avon, Peckham, Edmonton and Belfast."

Clarks is not the only retailer to open and close stores on the British high street.
