Stop giant spiders from storming your home with 'effective yet cheap' trick
PEXELS
Spider season is well underway in the UK with many homes noticing an increase in the pests
Spiders can enter houses at any time of year, but they are most prominent from early September until mid-October due to their mating season.
Fortunately, there are some ways to make them less likely to enter your home.
For example, there are lots of smells that are pleasant around the home that spiders don't like.
Homeowners can make a cheap natural repellent using peppermint oil, heating technology expert at designer radiator specialists BestHeating Jess Steele explained.

She said: "Peppermint oil provides a strong smell and spiders are sensitive to them.
"This makes it an effective yet cheap method of taking away the worry of finding creepy crawlies all over the home, without causing harm to them.”
The smell of peppermint is believed to be too intense for spiders to handle.
However, having this around the home won't hurt them so can be a great alternative to chemical sprays.
Peppermint oil is a win-win as it will fend off spiders while keeping the home smelling fresh.
It can be picked up for less than £1.50 in Asda and is available in most supermarkets and online.
The expert suggested mixing the oil with water and spraying this on curtains and in the corners of the carpet.
Homeowners can also use this at entrance points around the property such as at windows and doors.

For extra protection against the creepy crawlies, soak cotton buds in peppermint oil to create diffusers and leave them around the house.
Spider mating season kicks off during the change of season as spiders look for drier conditions inside.
Thankfully this does not last long as spiders don't like to be too warm.
As winter approaches and homeowners put on their heating, spiders will retreat to their winter hiding spots and are less likely to be around the home.
