Looking younger and reducing wrinkles is a top priority for many women, with skin care playing a crucial role in maintaining a youthful appearance.
Cosmetic doctor and dermatologist, Dr Nyla Raja, spoke exclusively to GB News and explained that preventing wrinkles starts with maintaining skin elasticity, hydration, and collagen production.
Dr Raja said: "One of the most effective ways to do this is through consistent use of high-quality skin care products that contain active ingredients like retinol, peptides, and hyaluronic acid."
Women have been advised to apply products that contain active ingredients like retinol, peptides, and hyaluronic acid
GETTY"Retinol, a form of vitamin A, stimulates cell turnover and collagen production, which helps to smooth fine lines and wrinkles over time," added Dr Raja.
Peptides help to produce more collagen and hyaluronic acid is essential for deep hydration. Hyaluronic acid is helpful with keeping skin plump and reducing wrinkles.
The doctor said: "In the morning, after cleansing, you should apply an antioxidant serum such as vitamin C to protect against free radical damage, followed by a moisturiser and SPF."
Applying SPF cream is great for reducing the risk of burning and other sun-related health risks, but it is also key for anti-ageing.
In the evening, women should focus on a more intense routine, as an opportunity to repair their skin from any damage it occurred in the day.
Dr Raja said: "During the evening, a more intensive routine is beneficial, incorporating retinol, peptides, and deeply nourishing ingredients like squalane or shea butter.
"The order of application is crucial, always start with the thinnest consistency products like serums and work up to thicker creams and oils. When applying skin care, less is more. A pea-sized amount of retinol, for example, is enough for the entire face. Overuse can cause irritation and sensitivity, especially with potent active ingredients."

The third tip women have been recommended is to start performing preventative skin care.
"The earlier you start with preventative skin care, the better. Sunscreen is absolutely non-negotiable. It should be worn daily, regardless of the weather, as UV exposure is one of the leading causes of premature ageing," explained Dr Raja.
Products with SPF30 or higher and added antioxidants like vitamin C or niacinamide help to enhance protection against environmental damage.
The doctor said: "Hydration is also key; ingredients like glycerin and ceramides help to restore and strengthen the skin barrier, preventing moisture loss.
"A good skin care routine should focus on protecting in the morning and repairing at night, ensuring the skin has the nutrients it needs to regenerate and stay firm."
