When it comes to ageing, the appearance of the skin can be a real giveaway. As collagen and elastin levels deplete over time, fine lines, wrinkles, sagging and a loss of elasticity are inevitable.
Getting older does not have to mean sacrificing your complexion, though. While it's impossible to totally eliminate signs of ageing, bettering your skin is entirely achievable.
GB News spoke exclusively to a board-certified dermatologist about how women can make "fast" improvements at any age.
Dr David Johnson, co-founder of RedLiteX, stressed the importance of implementing skin-friendly habits for results that last.
While an effective skin care regimen is non-negotiable, getting enough sleep, staying hydrated and eating well are equally key.

"If you want to improve your skin quickly, there are basic things you can start today. Healthy skin is achievable regardless of age," the dermatologist stated.
According to the skin care guru, adequate nightly shut-eye provides a noticeable boost.
Dr Johnson explained: "When you're sleeping, your skin is doing its thing. It's making collagen - which keeps your skin tight - repairing damage, and calming redness.
"I question each of my patients regarding their sleeping habits. The less sleep, the more pimples, dark circles and premature ageing they have."
As for the magic number that promises a glowing complexion? The expert advises getting seven to nine hours every night.
The experts at Anti Wrinkle Clinic confirmed that sleep is necessary for skin success.
They said: "Getting your 'Zs' leads to a boost in collagen, a protein that helps keep skin firm and elastic.
"During sleep, the body can more easily get to work and produce more collagen, which helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines."
Other skin-boosting benefits of a good night-time routine include reduced inflammation, increased blood flow, hormone regulation and replenished hydration levels.
Drinking enough water is essential for hydration, too, with the dermatologist stressing the importance of consuming a "sufficient" amount.
"Your skin will dry out if you don't. It may become dull or flaky," he warned. "I advise my patients to drink a minimum of eight glasses a day.
"Skin cells require water to be smooth and strong. If your body is thirsty, your skin is as well."

GETTY IMAGESIn a similar vein, enjoying a healthy diet is an easy way to improve skin fast. Indeed, the expert stated: "What you consume reflects on your skin. Omega-3 rich foods such as salmon and walnuts, antioxidant foods such as berries, and foods rich in vitamin C such as oranges, promote clear, radiant skin. I've seen acne clear just by reducing sugar and greasy food intake."
Dr Johnson also recommended utilising red light therapy for skin-boosting benefits. He said: "We apply red and near-infrared light at RedLiteX to enhance skin health.
"Such light enhances the functioning of the skin cells. It promotes better flow of blood, stimulates collagen formation, and reduces inflammation.
"It has helped improve acne, fine lines, and redness. It is safe, natural, and convenient to use at home."
Of course, if you do choose to incorporate red light therapy into your skin care routine, make sure you use a reputable product and follow the instructions properly.
In a recent GB News deep dive, doctors broke down how to use the treatment for "improving skin tone" and "softening fine lines".
