The doctor recommended applying SPF daily

As we age, the production of collagen and elastin in our skin decreases, which causes the skin to lose its structure, creating wrinkles.

To combat this, people often turn to skin care products to reduce fine lines and achieve a more youthful look.

A doctor recommended three tips for women to follow to "look younger with skin care."

Speaking exclusively to GB News, cosmetic aesthetics doctor, Dr Ed Robinson said: "My first tip would be prevention is better than cure. Wear SPF daily from as early an age as possible. It is the best investment you can make for anti-ageing long-term."

SPF not only has short-term benefits, but long-term too, as it slows "the ageing process".

Dr Ed explained: "If you are going to look at other routes for anti-ageing you are not going to have to spend as much money on those things because of SPF.

"When you are starting to show signs of ageing, use a retinoid. It is the second best product for how your skin is going to look."

A study published in the National Library of Medicine (NLOM) said: "Retinol formulation resulted in significant improvement in fine wrinkles after 12 weeks of treatment."

The third tip the expert advised is to have some form of a skin care routine.

He said: "If you have a basic skin care routine, it can lay the foundation for good quality skin.

"The analogy I use is that when people come into my clinic for professional treatments, I advise not to have it unless they are going to consider skin care first because it is like wallpapering the walls without plastering first."

Another study published in the NLOM noted: "Using a relevant daily routine [has] visible skin benefits over a short period, while driving the creation of habits for the prevention of ageing signs."

In other skin care news, a 101-year-old has revealed her lifelong dedication to her skin care line founded by her son, which she credits for her remarkably youthful appearance.

"They keep asking me what your skin care routine is because you look so good for 101", her 26-year-old grandson shared before detailing the centenarian’s daily regimen of cleansers, serums and creams.

The morning routine begins with an anti-ageing cleanser which she applies to both face and body.

She follows this with a hyaluronic cream, which she prefers for daytime use.
