LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The products were taken off the market by the Office for Product Safety Standards (OPSS).

Makari De Suisse Active Intense Tone Boosting Cream was removed by the OPSS for having 272mg/kg clobetasol propionate. The OPPS said: "Clobetasol propionate is prohibited in cosmetic products as exposure to it could cause skin irritation and may damage the endocrine system."

Clobetasol propionate was also discovered in the Makari de Suisse, Active Intense Unify & Illuminate Argan & Carrot Oil Tone Boosting Cream, but in a larger quantity containing 284mg/kg.

It was removed for the same reasons of potentially causing skin irritation and damage to the endocrine system.

The Makari De Suisse Glow Revitalizing Body Lotion was withdrawn from the market due to the product containing 3.1% w/w hydroquinone, which is banned from use in cosmetics.

The OPSS wrote: "Hydroquinone is a skin sensitiser and may cause allergic contact dermatitis. The product does not meet the requirements."

The removal of these products was notified by the Local Authority Trading Standards.

It is very important for Britons to remain vigilant on the latest product recalls for their safety. Shoppers were recently warned of an iron posing a risk of burns.
