Sainsbury's has introduced new features across stores

Sainsbury's has rolled out a number of changes in recent weeks.

Shoppers will notice the biggest updates on their favourite food and essential products.

It has changed the packaging on own brand toilet paper and kitchen roll to cut back on waste.

Products will be sold in packaging that is easier to recycle at home.

The retailer changed 16 Taste the Difference Aberdeen Angus range.

The retailer will cut back on emissions while creating these products by combining the dairy and beef supply chains.

Food such as 12 per cent and five per cent fat mince, 30 day rib eye steak and a 30 day beef roasting joint are affected.

It updated the labelling on own brand milk to stop produce going to waste.

Used by dates will be replaced by best before dates, encouraging shoppers to check their milk before throwing it away.

Used by dates vary from best before dates as the latter is only guidance.

The product can still be consumed after this time if it is judged fit to consume.

The update will be rolled out to all stores by February 2024.

Director of Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability at Sainsbury’s Ruth Cranston added: “Around a third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted.

"Combatting food waste is one of our top priorities and we are continuously innovating to tackle this issue, all the way from farms and suppliers, right to our customers’ homes.

"By switching to best-before dates on our milk we are empowering customers to make their own decisions on whether their food is good to eat, helping to prevent them from disposing of food too early.”
