Property does not come cheap and some locations will have you forking out up to £1million more than the cheapest spots.

Experts share the full list of the cheapest and most expensive places to set down roots.


Locations in Scotland dominated the list as the most affordable place to buy, with Angus taking the lead, according to research by Hopkins Homes.

It considered factors including house price and value-to-earnings ratio to give regions an affordability score out of 100.

3. Aberdeenshire, Scotland (£200,276) - Final Score: 83.2

4. North Ayrshire, Scotland (£130,943) - Final Score: 82.9

5. North Lanarkshire, Scotland (£138,557) - Final Score: 82.5

6. Inverclyde, Scotland (£125,836) - Final Score: 82.3

7. East Ayrshire, Scotland (£128,549) - Final Score: 81.5

8. South Lanarkshire, Scotland (£166,162) - Final Score: 81.3

9. Renfrewshire, Scotland (£156,917) - Final Score: 80.9

10. Falkirk, Scotland (£168,536) - Final Score: 80.9

The most affordable spot in England was Sunderland, North East England, with a score of 80.6 and an average property price of £135,666.

While Angus was the most affordable area overall, the cheapest property was actually found to be in Inverclyde, which has homes for £125,836.

On the other hand, the least affordable places to buy were found to be in and around the capital city of London.

Kensington and Chelsea was the least affordable with a score of just 40 out of 100, and an average home price of £1,197,249.
