Some of the UK's most unspoiled corners offer affordable housing

Britain is home to all types of epic scenery, with some destinations offering surprisingly affordable housing, a survey has found.

Housing experts at Hammonds recently identified the most affordable properties for house hunters seeking an idyllic escape from the city.

The survey found that 57 per cent of UK adults consider the beauty of the area they live in as an important factor when buying a house.

It crowned the Isle of Bute, one of Scotland's most picturesque areas, as the best area to find an affordable property with scenic views in 2024.

Securing the sixth spot is one of Britain's most picturesque regions, Lancashire's Ribble Valley, where visitors will find picturesque villages, soul-soothing countryside and warm-hearted inhabitants.

“The colours of the valley change with the seasons, each presenting a different perspective on our stunning landscapes," according to Visit Ribble Valley.

Another feature of the area that makes it so unforgettable is its heritage, which sites like the 14th-century Whalley Abbey, and the breathtaking Stonyhurst College open to tourists.

The Valley is also widely described as a walker and cyclist paradise, attracting travellers from across the country.

Experts at Hammond noted: "With remote and hybrid working shifting the need to live close to the office, Brits are freer than ever to choose a new place to live, and it's clear that the UK has many picturesque places to move to.

"For those looking to move to a storybook village amidst the hustle and bustle of the capital, the price tag may seem out of reach.

"But our research shows that there are many photogenic locations that can fit smaller budgets too."
