Spider season starts now and will last until mid-October

Britons will start to notice more spiders in their home as spider mating season kicks off and the temperatures change.

Luckily, there are some ways to stop the insects from coming into your property.

Storage expert and owner of Adams Selfstore Chris Hutton shared his advice on keeping the pests at bay.

He said: "Remember that complete elimination of insects is often not possible, but taking these steps can significantly reduce their presence in your living spaces.

"It's important to find a balance between keeping insects at bay and maintaining a healthy environment."

Seal entry points

He said: "Inspect the exterior of your property for any gaps, cracks, or openings that insects could use to enter.

"Seal these gaps using caulk, weather stripping, or other appropriate materials.

"Install door sweeps on exterior doors to prevent insects from crawling underneath."

Declutter

Spiders are drawn to messy areas where they can hide so it is key to keep a clean home.

Chris said: "Regularly clean and declutter your garage, storage units, and house. Insects are attracted to clutter and dirt.

"Vacuum and sweep regularly to remove crumbs, dust and debris that can attract insects."

Use repellents

If all else fails, there are a range of natural and chemical repellents that can be used to help deter the pests.

The expert added: "Use natural repellents like cedar wood, mint, or citrus-scented sprays. These scents can discourage insects from entering your space.

"Or, use insecticides or repellents around entry points, windows, and door frames. Make sure to follow the instructions on the product label and take appropriate safety precautions."
