Boosting your property's value before selling it does not have to be an expensive venture.

A DIY expert spoke exclusively to GB News about how Britons can increase their property's price "easily and cost-effectively".

Glenn Peskett, DIY expert and founder of Saxton Blades, advised homeowners to make a few small changes to their front doors.

Creating a good first impression is essential, and a front door is one of the first things a prospective buyer sees.

The expert suggested that a change of door colour could be effective. Glenn said: "The front door is one of the first things potential buyers will notice.

"If you have a solid wood door, you can simply refresh the unit with a new colour. Consider using bold colours like bottle green or claret red, complete with a glossy finish.

"If your door is white uPVC, you can boost its appearance by adding semi-gloss paint which is resistant to mould."

As for other simple changes you can make, the expert advised: "Homeowners might want to consider upgrading their door’s hardware with a new letterbox, knocker, handle or house number to improve its overall appearance."

The property whizz also recommended making some changes to your driveway if you're looking to sell.

He advised homeowners to clear debris, explaining: "A spotless driveway looks more appealing and gives the impression that your home is well cared for, so keep it well-maintained by clearing away dirt, stains and debris.

"Use a pressure washer to clean your paving by removing built-up grime, which will restore it to its original appearance.

"For tougher stains and dirt, apply a detergent or cleaning solution designed for pressure washing to the surface. Afterwards, reseal the surface to preserve the driveway’s appearance and protect it from future wear and tear."

For those who have a fence, maintaining this properly is essential if they want to boost their property's value.

Glenn told homeowners: "A worn or neglected fence signals extra work for potential buyers but revamping your fence can greatly boost your home’s curb appeal.

"First, for wooden fences, inspect for any rot, decay, cracks or holes. Use a garden hose to wash off any grime and trim back any plants, vines or branches near the fence to reduce moisture buildup.

"For iron fences, remove rust with sandpaper or steel wool, hammer in any loose nails and use waterproof glue to repair any broken pieces in the facade."

Finally, it's important to protect your property from dampness. The expert warned: "Buyers always look for signs of dampness during viewings as this can cause serious health issues to those living in the property.

"Make sure to regularly clear out your gutters, especially in autumn, so water can drain properly and avoid costly, long-term damage.

"Close the doors in kitchens and bathrooms after using them to prevent moisture from these rooms from spreading into other areas like the living room.

"Avoid overcrowding cupboards and wardrobes too, as this restricts the airflow, leading to condensation in these units."
