The average UK house price sat at £265,375 in August, according to the Nationwide House Price Index

UK property prices may be down 0.2 per cent month-on-month, but they have risen at the fastest pace year-on-year since December 2022.

If looking to sell your property, an expert suggested the trending colours that could make it most appealing to potential buyers.

It is no secret that kerb appeal plays a huge part in how quickly your home will sell, and even how much buyers are willing to pay for it.

That's why sellers should prioritise a well-maintained exterior and pleasant front garden before listing their home.

Head of design at Magnet Trade Jen Nash said: “Transforming your home's exterior is easily achieved through painting your front door, and is a project manageable even for less experienced DIY lovers.

"However, if your aim is to elevate your home's curb appeal, be sure to skilfully select a colour that will leave an enduring impression on your guests.

"If you're thinking about giving your front door a new coat of paint, take into account the following colours to embrace or avoid.”

Painting your front door is an affordable and easy job that can brighten up your outdoor space. Based on Google trends, the expert said red could be the number one colour to go for. Searches for this have soared by 202 per cent in the last 12 months, it said.

Jen added: "Offering an opulent and inviting entrance to a property, it’s no wonder that red is set to become the most popular front door colour in the coming year. As a bold and vibrant hue, red naturally draws the eye, making a strong visual statement.

"Incorporating this colour into your home’s exterior will undoubtedly elevate the entire property, infusing it with a sense of luxury, sophistication, grandeur and warmth.

"Moreover, red is often linked to hospitality, symbolising ‘welcome’ in some traditions and inviting good luck and positivity into the home, making it the ideal choice for a front door.”

Other colours that have seen a spike in searches include green, pink and purple, meaning these could all be shades to consider.

They advised: "First impressions matter, and improving the exterior of your home is one of the most cost-effective ways to boost its value.

"Easy ways to do this include cleaning and maintaining the garden by mowing the grass, trimming hedges and removing weeds.

"A fresh coat of paint on the front door is also a cheap yet effective way of making your home look more appealing.

"Whether you choose a bold colour to catch potential buyers’ eyes, or a neutral shade for a more traditional look, this can be done for as little as £50 if you do it yourself."
