The North London neighbourhood has a longstanding popularity with high-profile celebrities
Helena Bonham Carter's ascent to fame started almost 40 years ago, but the actress is best known for her highly acclaimed portrayal of Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter.
The Londoner previously lived with her ex-husband and director Tim Burton, with whom she shares two children.
The pair reportedly owned adjoining homes next door to each other. Helena kept both properties after the pair divorced, admitting that it made her feel alien to sleep in a different dwelling from her husband.
The actress now reportedly still lives in North London with her two children and partner, art historian Rye Dag Holmboe, according to a 2023 report in the Guardian.
Hampstead has become a hub for celebrities
GETTYExperts at Residential Land say: “The allure of Hampstead, with its stunning architecture, bespoke houses, indulgent mansion flats, cobbled lanes, tree-lined avenues, fantastic boutiques, shops, cafes and restaurants, celebrity residents and 791 acres of the fabulous Hampstead Heath, arguably makes it the most prestigious of London’s high-brow postcodes.”
“The vast wealth of this prized neighbourhood is fuelled by the number of high-profile residents that call home to residents such as Sting, Helena Bonham Carter, Boy George, Stephen Fry and Liam Gallagher.
“A lust for life amongst pop idols and film stars has seen competition for property burgeon, and as a result, property prices in the area are increasingly high.”
According to property experts at Rightmove, homes in Hampstead sold for an overall price of £1,334,429 over the last year.
The majority of sales in the area were flats, selling for an average of £897,503. Terraced properties sold for an average of £2,371,261, with semi-detached properties fetching £2,906,286.
“Overall, sold prices in Hampstead over the last year were nine per cent down on the previous year and four per cent up on the 2020 peak of £1,283,958," said Rightmove.
In 2023, Hampstead was crowned London's most desirable neighbourhood in a survey released by Time Out, which set out to determine "where in the city people want to move to the most".
The neighbourhood came out top of the list, followed shortly by Chelsea, Islington, Richmond and Hackney.
Another critically acclaimed actress who lives in the vicinity is Emma Thompson, who reportedly owns the house across the road from her 91-year-old mother, Phyllida Law.

The North London neighbourhood boasts some of the city's best views
PAHampstead is renowned for its unparalleled serenity, but in September 2023, Thompson joined other A-list celebs in a battle against plans for a “Malibu mansion” in the area.
The group condemned a redevelopment proposal, arguing it would be “very damaging” and “completely out of character” for the neighbourhood.
A letter co-signed by Thompson and her husband Greg Wise, who starred in Sense and Sensibility, read: “It would fit in perfectly in Malibu, but not in our Conservation Area".
Thompson and Wise, who share one daughter, reportedly reside in a £3million home that flaunts the neighbourhood’s attractive architecture.
