A property expert said detached homes can cause the loss of community feel
Kirstie Allsopp said she believes the housing system in the UK is "not fit for purpose".
The property expert added she would like detached homes to stop being built.
Detached homes are a common choice for those looking for more space and privacy.
However, the presenter shared several reasons why these are not the best for housing in the UK.

"I would stop the building of detached houses," Kirstie explained.
Detached homes have more space between them which could be considered as a bad use of land.
"They're not environmentally practical. They don't make best use of the sites," she told the Daily Mail Weekend Magazine.
"They have smaller gardens, there's less community. That gap between the houses is a waste of space."
The growing demand for property in the UK has affected the types of homes being built.
Last year, the number of new bungalows that were registered dropped by a whopping 70 per cent.
Just 226 new bungalows were registered to be built between July and September of 2023.
This is because one-storey homes seem less practical amid a shortage of space in the UK.

CEO at NHBC National House Building Council Steve Wood previously said: “Land is a scarce resource, which developers make use of in the most efficient way possible.
“On a plot for a single bungalow, it may be possible to build three or even four houses."
This comes as homeowners in the UK have seen the average house price rise.
Four UK regions saw house prices soar while they dropped in other parts of the country.
