Cher owned a multi-million pound home in a surprising part of the UK

Cher purchased the penthouse flat for "millions" of pounds, although the exact sum of money was not disclosed.

She bought the home in Canary Wharf based in the east of London.

​Many celebrities who have bought in London have chosen spots in the west of the centre of the city, making Cher's choice more surprising.

There is lots to do in Canary Wharf, including a string of popular restaurants and bars.

It has lots of huge skyscrapers and is home to One Canada Square, which was once the tallest building in the UK.

While mainly a district for workers, Canary Wharf has great transport links to central London.

​It is also near the Isle of Dogs and Greenwich, which is home to the famous Greenwich park.

Living in the area is not cheap, however, with average properties costing £597,754.

Flats sell for around £580,920 and semi-detached homes are worth the most at £746,000, according to Rightmove.

Cher is one of many celebrities who have chosen London as their UK base.
