The average house price in Aberdeen, northeast Scotland, is £137,000

Britons looking to purchase a property may want to consider a move to Aberdeen, northeast Scotland.

According to research by Zoopla, out of 20 UK cities, Aberdeen properties were the cheapest to snap up as of June 2024.


Zoopla's July 2024 house price index revealed that the average price of a property in Aberdeen is £137,000, which is £127,000 less than the average UK property price of £265,600.

This is an average of all properties including detached houses, flats, semi-detached houses and terraced houses.

Another Scottish city has the second lowest average property price, with Glasgow homes at £148,700.

Unsurprisingly, London is home to the highest average property price in the UK: £536,500.

As well as boasting the lowest average property prices in the whole of the UK, Aberdeen has seen the biggest decrease in prices year-on-year, despite an overall increase across Scotland.

Indeed, from June 2023 to June 2024, property prices decreased in Aberdeen by 2.2 per cent.

From June 2022 to June 2023, property prices saw a 1.6 per cent decrease.

Portsmouth saw the second-largest property price reduction, with a decrease of 1.4 per cent.

In contrast, Belfast, Northern Ireland, saw the biggest increase in average property prices, jumping up by 4.3 per cent year-on-year from June 2023.

For those looking to get more bang for their buck, coastal Aberdeen is a great option. There is plenty to explore, from the Aberdeen Maritime Museum to Slains Castle to Duthie Park Winter Gardens.

One visitor to Slains Castle took to Tripadvisor to praise its "stunning views". Another said: "You have to experience it."

Dunnottar Castle is also a "must-visit". One visitor rejoiced over the "spectacular scenery" surrounding it. Another called it "utterly stunning" and "worth a special trip".

A visitor to Duthie Park Winter Gardens called them "absolutely beautiful". Another called them "the best gardens ever".

The delighted visitor continued: "It is a beautiful garden. The gardens are well-maintained and is a scenic walk for children. The botanical gardens feature multiple glasshouses, housing a wide variety of plants. It is a hidden gem in the city for enjoying peace and harmony."

In the latest Government house price index, the cheapest UK region to buy a home was revealed. Here, homes are roughly £162,000, which is £119,000 less than the average UK house price.
