Demand for bungalows has increased in the UK as Britons look to downsize

Many people favour a bungalow in later years as it has lower bills and an easier to manage space.

However, bungalows do not often come on the market as those who own one tend to stay there, according to experts.

Research by Regency Living found bungalows account for just one in 10 homes listed for sale at the moment.

Some 42 per cent of these homes have already sold but the experts found the parts of England where Britons are most likely to be able to find such a property.

The East Midlands and East of England have the highest percentage of single-storey homes available, both with 14 per cent availability.

This works out at around 9,768 and 12,451 bungalows available respectively. The South East has the most bungalows available overall, at 13,475, but this is just 10 per cent of property on the market there.

London is the area with the highest demand for the property type based on how many available have been sold.

The average demand for bungalows in England sits at 42 per cent as many that are put on the market are snapped up quickly.
