A pristine garden, pretty flowers and a fresh lick of paint on your front door could work wonders

Many Britons will be looking to boost their property's value before putting it on the market, and according to one expert, improving kerb appeal is essential.

An expert spoke exclusively to GB News about how homeowners can get more for their properties with a few handy hacks. Ensuring a great first impression is paramount and can be achieved by revamping your front door and the surrounding areas.

Area Director at John D Wood & Co Kesha Foss-Smith encouraged Britons to spend some time upgrading the outside of their homes. After all, this is the first impression your prospective buyer will have before they step inside.

Kesha said: "Improving your home's value can be done with a few smart upgrades.

"Start with kerb appeal: keep your garden tidy, add visually appealing plants like sunflowers or tulips, and consider painting the front door."

According to a DIY expert, those looking to sell should not underestimate the importance of a pristine front door and the right paint colours.

Inside the house, the expert recommended focusing on improving two rooms.

Kesha said: "Updating kitchens and bathrooms adds the most value. Simple fixes like replacing outdated fixtures, repainting walls in neutral colours and upgrading countertops can add tens of thousands of pounds to the overall house price."

The expert continued: "Sustainability is also becoming a big selling point. Adding features like solar panels, underfloor heating or a well-insulated attic not only reduces energy bills but also attracts eco-conscious buyers.

"Homeowners need to be aware that there are going to be stricter regulations around energy efficiency, so it's always wise to stay ahead of these changes to avoid any surprises during the selling process." While this improvement can cost more to do, it can provide a return when selling the home.

"Lastly, buyers and sellers often overlook the importance of getting a thorough survey done," the expert stated.

"Skipping this step can lead to nasty surprises, like discovering structural issues after the deal is done."

Kesha previously spoke to GB News about the interior design tweaks that can boost your home value by £55,000 without "costing a lot".

Potential buyers are willing to offer around £55,000 more than the asking price for properties with plenty of storage space. Making this improvement will cater for Britons who desire a clutter-free home.

Similarly, research has found that nifty storage solutions can increase your home's value by up to £12,500.

Creating effective storage spaces in the kitchen might be an idea, as Kesha claimed that "homeowners no longer want to see busy appliances out on shelves".
