'The product presents a serious risk of electric shock'
OPSS
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) confirmed that the device's plug violates UK safety regulations.
Officials explained the specific danger, saying: "The product presents a serious risk of electric shock because it is supplied with a non-compliant plug.
"The bottom two pins are less than 9.5mm from the periphery of the plug, less than the minimum permissible distance.
"If the user plugs in the device without the pins fully entering the socket, and they then try to remove the plug by placing their fingers close to the base of the pins, they may receive an electric shock."
The design flaw creates a hazardous situation for users and fails to meet the requirements of both the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 and the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.
As a result, the product has been recalled, and TikTok has removed the listing from its marketplace.
Britons who shop via TikTok should check their homes for the dangerous appliance.
According to reports by World Population Review, as of 2024, there were 22.7 million TikTok users in the UK.
