OPSS
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) identified multiple hazards with the imported product.
Border officials prevented the lamp from entering the UK market after inspections revealed it posed significant safety risks.
The lamp presented a "serious risk of fire" according to the OPSS, due to insufficient cord anchorage.
The product also posed an "electric shock" hazard because of inadequate insulation between metal parts and live components.
Safety inspectors noted the reading light also lacked the required markings and had incomplete information on proper use.
The product did not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.
Officials confirmed that "the import has been rejected at the border" as a result of these safety failures.
