Britons are advised to check their homes following new product safety reports

Britons have been informed that a variety of products sold via Amazon and eBay are unsafe to use.

To protect customers, steps have been made to ensure the dangerous items do not reach UK homes. While some have been removed from the online marketplace, others were rejected at the border.

Those who have purchased and received the products prior to this safety warning should stop using them immediately.

The affected items include a toothbrush charger and a cooker sold via Amazon, as well as a pyrography kit sold via eBay.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) warned that the product presents a "serious risk of fire" because the fuse within the plug does not contain any granular filler. The fuse endcaps are also insecurely fixed, and the fuse is the wrong length.

The product does not meet safety requirements, causing the import to be rejected at the border.

The product also presents a "serious risk of fire" as the live and neutral pins are too short and do not meet the dimensions of BS 1363, as warned by the OPSS. The product does not provide the level of earthing protection required and does not meet the necessary safety requirements.

As a result, the import has been rejected at the border, and the listing has been removed from the online marketplace (Amazon).

Officials warned that the product presents a "serious risk of electric shock" because the user can easily access the internal live parts. These parts include "poor-quality connections" with wires soldered directly to the PCB.

In addition, the plug supplied with the product does not meet labelling requirements and is fitted with a counterfeit fuse.

The product does not meet safety regulations and has been removed from the online marketplace.

Anyone who has already purchased the product should "stop using [it] immediately" and contact the distributor they purchased from to request redress.

Product recalls should always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety.

Recently, air fryer users across the UK were warned that a popular product poses a fire risk.

This particular recall affected Britons who shop at TK Maxx and Homesense. However, the safety announcement formed part of a broader air fryer risk as products sold at Tesco, Argos, B&M Bargains and more were pulled from shelves.
