Taking supplements and switching to a volumising shampoo helps prevent hair loss

Female pattern baldness is a worry for lots of women but fortunately, there are ways to prevent it.

A celebrity hairdresser has shared four ways to combat hair loss, starting with taking supplements.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, Richard Ward said: "Take supplements specifically designed for hair growth, such as Viviscal Professional."

Supplements provide nutrients to the body and support cell production. Look for supplements high in vitamins C and D as they help strengthen hair follicles.

Richard said: "Switch to volumising shampoos that won't weigh the hair down. Use professional hair thickening and density-boosting shampoos."

Volumising shampoos remove excess oil and target the hair cuticle, which is the outer layer of each strand.

The shampoo raises the hair follicles at the scalp, creating an appearance of thicker and fuller hair.

Consider swapping shampoos and moving to one with biotin, keratin or collagen inside as they can help strengthen each strand of hair, Richard suggests.

Another method to consider is low-level laser therapy (LLLT). Richard said: "LLLT helps to stimulate growth."

A study published by the National Library of Medicine said: "Controlled clinical trials demonstrated that LLLT stimulated hair growth in both men and women.

"Among various mechanisms, the main mechanism is [the] stimulation of epidermal stem cells in the hair follicle bulge and shifting the follicles. LLLT for hair growth in both men and women appears to be both safe and effective."

As a cheaper solution, reducing stress can help with hair loss, which Richard said is "a major loss trigger".

Richard said: "Reduce stress with activities like yoga, meditation, or scalp massages."

As well as preventing hair loss, reducing stress makes people appear younger too.

A very simple technique to lower stress levels is to take 10 deep breaths a few times a day.

This is scientifically proven to help lower cortisol levels (stress hormone) which is responsible for hair loss.
