When applied correctly, makeup can work wonders for people's skin, making them look more youthful.
If applied incorrectly, it can have the opposite effect, as one makeup artist explained that happened to her.
Michelle Sanchez spoke on her TikTok page (@MichelleSanchez) about her own makeup mistakes and the errors she sees women making.
She said: "Before I became a makeup artist, I made mistakes with my makeup, which was ageing me."

One of the mistakes she made was with her concealer. As we age, it is essential to use the right concealer, as one "that worked well when you were 20 may now be enhancing all those fine lines and wrinkles".
Michelle advised: "You want to go in with a cream foundation shade that matches your skin tone perfectly to help naturally colour correct your under-eyes.
"Then, you want to apply a shade slightly lighter than your skin tone and apply that around any darkness. If you put it on top of the darkness, it will bring it forward and any hollows under the eye."
In addition to your concealer, how you apply your eyeliner significantly impacts your appearance.
The makeup artist encouraged people not to "overline their eyes with a black eyeliner" as it "does not look good on everybody's eyes".
She encouraged: "Going for a soft, brown, bronzy shade helps softly define around the eyes. Then, follow up with a matte, brown eyeshadow to create a soft, little wing on the corner of your eye."
Preparing your skin before applying makeup is one of the "most important parts" of a routine.
Michelle advised: "Keeping it simple with an exfoliating pad and a moisturiser for your skin type will do plenty to hydrate the skin."
