Applying it correctly creates the illusion of fuller, younger-looking cheeks

While ageing is nothing to be ashamed of, many women are keen to turn back the clock and knock a few years off their appearance.

And there are many options at their disposal, from avoiding unflattering hair colours to adopting the perfect skin care practice for each age.

According to a beauty, makeup and skin care expert, being savvy with your cosmetics can also have an instant anti-ageing effect.

Kat James (who goes by @officialkatjames on TikTok), claimed that knowing where to place your blusher is essential.

Blusher, as defined by makeup mogul Charlotte Tilbury, is the "step that brings warmth and a kiss of colour to the complexion after applying foundation and concealer".

According to Kat, when it comes to "mature" skin, women should apply their blusher to the apples of their cheeks - not too high or too low.

She said: "To me, blush is the most youthful part of the whole makeup process.

"I'm 51 and [my cheeks] have definitely flattened out over the past few years. That's why adding blush there is so important to bring back the illusion of being more full."

For an expert-approved look, Kat advised mature women to swirl their makeup brush into a powder blush before shaking off the excess.

Then, they should find the pupils of their eyes and draw an imaginary line downwards until they reach the sides of their noses.

"That's where you are starting - right in that spot," she advised. "Work in a circular motion."

Demonstrating her blusher technique, Kat said: "Notice that I'm not bringing it too far out towards my hairline. I'm keeping it very centred.

"If it helps you, smile and create that little punch in your cheeks and work right on that apple."

With whatever is left on the brush, Kat advised bringing up the product slightly, a little bit on top of their under-eye concealer.

She concluded: "Look how lifted and youthful that looks. I just think it's such a beautiful difference."

Makeup enthusiasts commented on the video, praising Kat's flattering technique.

"You're a genius, thank you for all your tips and tricks," one said. Another stated: "Beautiful - trying it."

Alongside blusher, concealer remains one of the most transformative makeup products.

Indeed, a celebrity makeup artist exclusively told GB News she can look 10 years younger in seconds with a concealer trick that brightens and lifts.
