Creating a hydrated base and building up layers of makeup can help with longer-lasting makeup

Women across the country continue to face the daily challenge of makeup that fades, smudges, or disappears entirely before their day is done.

The struggle to maintain a polished appearance from morning meetings to evening events has become a common concern for busy professionals and social butterflies alike.

Founder of skincare brand Glow Hub, Tiffany Salmon, has shared five tips for women to try to get the longer-lasting makeup they desire.

She said the first port of call for women is to have a proper skincare routine.

Tiffany said: "The key to longer-lasting makeup starts with proper skincare. Use products with hydrating ingredients such as ceramides, amino acids, and jojoba oil to help your foundation adhere better to your skin and stay put throughout the day and night."

The application of your makeup matters significantly with how it stays on. If it is not set properly it could lead to smudging or possibly running down your face.

"Applying makeup products in thin, buildable layers will help avoid cakiness and ensure a more natural, long-lasting finish," said the expert.

She added: "This technique allows each layer to set properly, reducing the risk of makeup sliding or breaking apart."

To help your makeup set, the expert advised using some setting creams so your makeup does not move during the day.

Tiffany recommended: "Setting cream products such as foundation and blush with a light dusting of translucent powder will help to lock everything in place and prevent your makeup from moving or fading throughout the day."

She advised people to wear waterproof makeup if possible due to the properties inside of them which resist sweat and humidity.

She said: "If you can, opt for long-wear or waterproof formulas for your foundation, concealer, and eye makeup. Long-wear products are designed to resist sweat, oil, and humidity, and waterproof products, especially mascara and eyeliner, prevent smudging or running."

The fifth tip the expert recommended is to not be afraid of refreshing your makeup throughout the day.

She said: "If your makeup starts to look cakey or your skin starts to feel dry thanks to the cold winter weather, use a hydrating mist to refresh and re-plump your skin throughout the day.

"Simply spritz a light layer over your makeup and air dry to freshen up your look. Just make sure to avoid moving your face while the mist is drying to avoid your makeup creasing!"

Women were also recently told of a product that can make a "huge difference" to women over 50, as long as they are "strategic" about it according to a makeup artist.
