Women have been told to try gua sha due to the benefits it can provide

The pursuit of younger-looking skin remains a constant mission for women, particularly during the challenging winter months when skin concerns become more pronounced.

Makeup artist and winner of season 6 of the TV show Glow Up, Shania Parris, spoke exclusively to GB News on applying makeup, focusing on one technique in particular, gua sha.

Gua sha is an ancient facial massage technique and has emerged as a powerful tool for achieving younger-looking skin.

The practice involves using a smooth-edged tool to massage the face, promoting blood flow and reducing puffiness for a more radiant complexion.

Shania said: "Learning how to gua sha is simple, and the benefits are well worth it. By massaging your face, you stimulate blood flow, get brighter skin, reduced puffiness and encourage lymphatic drainage.

"When doing facial massages, it’s essential to use a good oil to avoid tugging and help the gua sha glide smoothly. This way, you’re hydrating, de-puffing, and helping your skin glow, all in one step."

Gua sha can also help women with their sleep, anxiety levels and reduce toxins in the body.

The expert also said it is very important for women to use serums and face masks.

Shania said: "A hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid or vitamin C can significantly boost moisture and add radiance to your skin.

"Face masks are a great way to elevate your skin prep routine and provide targeted treatment for specific skin concerns.

"For hydration, apply a soothing sheet mask the night before your event to achieve a plump, dewy finish."

Masks help women reduce the amount of redness on their face and prevents irritation from happening.

The serum can also moisturise the skin overnight so before applying makeup in the morning, women's faces are already in a better condition.

Shania also recommended people to exfoliate well but to make sure they do so in the right way.

The makeup artist said: "Exfoliation is an essential step of skin prep, removing dead skin cells to help other products absorb better and makeup apply smoothly.

"If you’re new to exfoliating, start gently with products to avoid a break-out. Remember to avoid over-exfoliating right before a big event, especially if you have sensitive skin."
