The new project has been described as a 'high-tech revolution with unlimited potential'
A major car brand is set to introduce artificial intelligence to its vehicles to create a “conversational experience” to driving.
DS Automobiles has confirmed that it will launch a new project to include ChatGPT to control the infotainment system.
The DS Iris System will become available during a pilot phase to 20,000 owners of DS 3, DS 4, DS 7 and DS 9 vehicles.
The AI system can be found in the infotainment system and gives drivers access to a number of functions through speech recognition.
The boss of DS Automobiles said it had "unlimited potential"

Some of the examples of what drivers can ask the DS Iris System include the best things to do in Bordeaux, what the best pieces of art are in the Louvre and creating a quiz on any topic.
The system can be activated by saying “OK Iris” or by pressing a button on the steering wheel, with the voice interaction starting “safely” without needing to take their eyes off the road.
Olivier François, Head of DS Automobiles, said: “Our mission at DS is to provide our customers with a unique onboard experience.
“As pioneers in the integration of ChatGPT into the automotive world, we are making a generative artificial intelligence that is fluid, intuitive and immersive accessible, transforming every trip into a unique journey.
“It is a high-tech revolution with unlimited potential that is part of one of the greatest 21st century societal transformations.”
If car owners take out a subscription between October 19, 2023, and February 29, 2024, the feature can be instantly equipped remotely through the DS Services store.
ChatGPT has exploded in popularity over the past year, having achieved 100 million users in just over a month, with the developer, OpenAI, seeking an $86billion (£71billion) valuation.
Self-driving cars are already using forms of artificial intelligence to make real-time decisions on a number of factors based on sensors and cameras.
The AI software said DS drivers would have access to “real-time information”, as well as being entertained with a “more user-friendly, practical and connected experience”.
Yves Bonnefont, Stellantis Chief Software Officer, praised the new project, saying motorists could access a new facet of motoring.
He added: “Even knowing all the inner workings and binary computations that allow ChatGPT to interact with its user, there is a certain fascination with how this conversational artificial intelligence model works.
“Its ability to interact is certainly one of the most striking applications of AI of the past year around the world.
“Since ChatGPT has been available, we've worked to integrate it into our own systems. And we are pleased to be the first to offer this innovation in Europe.”
The use of AI is part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategy, which will focus on the three main pillars - care, technology and value.
