Jowls: Ditching a bad habit will 'immediately help slow the ageing process', says aesthetics practitioner

Jowls is the name given to the sagging skin that develops along the jawline, which often becomes more prominent with age.
While these are an inevitable sign of ageing, many women are keen to reduce their appearance.
GB News spoke exclusively to two skin gurus about how ladies can achieve this without going down the cosmetic treatment route. One skin-savvy expert advised women to stop smoking.
Leading aesthetics trainer, aesthetics practitioner and skin care expert at Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic, Amish Patel, said: "Jowls form as we age due to the skin losing its elasticity, caused by the decrease in collagen and fat coupled with bone recess.
"Other factors can also contribute to jowls, such as genetics, lifestyle choices and a tendency to overuse your facial muscles.

"Aside from aesthetic treatments such as surgery, laser threads, dermal fillers and Botox, there are things you can do to help improve jowls.
"My best advice is to avoid UV damage, and if you smoke - stop. Avoiding these two will immediately help slow the ageing process.
"I would also look at facial yoga; it makes sense that by strengthening the muscles in the face, you also improve the structural appearance of the face, which can be beneficial in some cases."
Moving on to skin care, the expert advised women to review their routine and products every six months.
He explained: "This will enable you to look at your skin and the products you are using and see if you need to change up your skin care products and try something different.
"If you haven't already, look at professional-grade skin care if your budget allows. This is because their formulation and ingredients are more potent than the cheaper high street versions and, therefore, will have a more significant impact on your skin. You'll likely end up using less but with more remarkable results.
"Keep hydrated by drinking lots of water to flush out the toxins and wearing an SPF factor of at least 50 all year around will go a long way to helping you look ten years younger!"
Facial aesthetics practitioner, Dr Raffaella Gabassi, also spoke to GB News about how women can minimise jowls at home.
She said: "They are primarily caused by a loss of skin elasticity, fat redistribution and the effects of gravity. Genetics, sun damage and lifestyle factors such as smoking can also contribute to their formation."
However, they can be improved at home. To minimise the appearance of jowls without resorting to cosmetic procedures, Dr Gabassi advised ladies to focus on their water intake and diet.

The expert said: "Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water to maintain skin moisture and elasticity.
"Incorporate fruits, vegetables and healthy fats into your diet, especially those that are rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients that support skin health."
As for skin care, she advised using skin care products that contain retinoids and peptides to "promote collagen production and firm the skin".
Like skin care expert Amish, Dr Gabassi urged women to apply sunscreen daily "all year round" to prevent further skin damage.
Finally, targeted exercises are worth a try to "help strengthen the jawline muscles".
