The wrong lipstick and foundation could be adding years to your face

As women age, the desire for youthful-looking skin becomes more prominent and they often turn to applying makeup.

According to an expert, the application they used in their 20s may no longer be effective in their 40s and 50s.

Content creator, Giedre Kavaliunaite explained on YouTube three errors she notices women make with their makeup application.

She said: "You need to lighten up your makeup. Makeup should enhance your features and not age you. Sometimes we stick to the same routine for years or even decades, without realising it might not be the most flattering look anymore."

One of the mistakes women make that "unintentionally adds years" to their appearance is using the wrong eyeliner.

Giedre said: "A harsh eyeliner on the lower lash line can make the eyes appear smaller and heavier. Instead, go for a softly smudged liner or just define the upper lash line for a more lifted effect.

"Second is too dark or overly shimmery lipstick as it can make lips look thinner and less vibrant."

The YouTuber recommended a hydrating satin or creamy lipstick in a fresh natural tone.

The third mistake often seen is applying a heavy or dark foundation, which "can settle into fine lines and make the skin look flat and aged".

The content creator explained: "Choose a lightweight, hydrating foundation or a tinted moisturiser for a radiant, fresh complexion.

"By keeping your makeup soft, fresh and natural, you can instantly brighten your face and take years off your look."

Aside from makeup, women's eyebrows make a huge difference in appearance and "instantly lift and refresh [their] look when done right".

Giedre recommended: "Tweeze for a lifted effect. Increasing the space between your brow and eyelid makes your eyes look bigger, brighter and more youthful.

"Super dark overly bold brows can look unnatural and make your features appear heavy. Try going for a softer, natural shade that complements your hair colour for a more balanced and lifted look.

"A well-groomed, softly defined brow can frame your face beautifully."
